The admission process for the RN to BSN online is streamlined to help you get started quickly and easily. Please read the requirements, including what additional materials you need and where you should send them.
Admission Requirements:
- RN license or scheduled for NCLEX
- Transcripts from prior institutions
- Minimum 2.5 GPA
- Complete an application online and pay a $60 nonrefundable application fee
- Cumulative 2.5 GPA on all previous undergraduate coursework
- Transcripts from all previous colleges/universities attended
- One of the following:
- Current unencumbered RN license issued in the U.S.
- Completed degree in nursing and waiting to sit for the NCLEX exam. Proof of passing NCLEX must be provided by the end of the first semester.

A BSN degree requires 120 credit hours, consisting of the following:
- 30 core nursing credits as listed below
33 proficiency credits for prior nursing education- 57 general education credits, taken as co-requisites or transferred in
There are no pre-requisite courses; students can start the program as soon as they are ready and take both nursing core courses and general education courses throughout the duration of the program. See below for more information on the general education requirements.

Students need 57 credit hours of general education courses. Most students will have completed many of these general education credits as part of their prior coursework and may be able to transfer them to UIC. The remaining number of general education credits needed will vary by student.
