The admission process for the RN to BSN online is streamlined to help you get started quickly and easily. Please read the requirements, including what additional materials you need and where you should send them.

Admission Requirements:

  • Current RN license
  • Transcripts from prior institutions
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA

  • Cumulative 2.5 GPA on all previous undergraduate coursework
  • Transcripts from all previous colleges/universities attended
  • One of the following:
    • Current unencumbered current RN license issued in the U.S.
    • Completed associate’s degree in nursing and waiting to sit for the NCLEX exam. Proof of passing NCLEX must be provided before the start of the program’s third course.

To accumulate the 120 credit hours necessary for a BSN degree, you must complete 30 core nursing credits as included in this online program with UIC; receive from UIC 33 proficiency credits for prior learning (block transfer); and take or transfer an additional 57 general education credits. Students already have many of these general education credits completed from prior college level course work and can transfer them to UIC. The remaining number of general education credits needed will vary by student. Upon admission to the program, a no-cost transcript evaluation will be conducted and each student will receive their individualized list of remaining general education courses which can be taken as co-requisites while enrolled in the RN BSN degree program.
